European School Milk Scheme
  • We have written to Michael Gove to ask for an update to his position on school milk subsidies after Brexit, and have chased his office on it. They have informed us that a response is being drafted. In a speech he gave to the World Dairy Summit in Belfast he said that he would do all that is necessary after the UK leaves the EU to ensure milk is available for children in UK schools.

  • We will continue to monitor member states’ responses to changes in the EU School Milk Scheme as they are published and prepare a summary focusing on the structures of the scheme and educational measures included, to inform our own work on a post-Brexit UK School Milk Scheme.

  • We are chasing MSPs who we sent correspondence to last month to ask them to take up the issue of a replacement school milk scheme in Scotland.

  • We highlighted the importance of the EU School Milk Scheme to Lords ahead of their debate on the EU Select Committee’s report on the impact of Brexit on agriculture.

  • We have been chasing Defra to secure a meeting with civil servants on the topic of school milk subsidies post-Brexit.
