Nursery Milk Scheme

  • This month reports leaked to the press that the Government is planning to consult on changes to the Nursery Milk Scheme with the view to reduce the price and reallocate the money to the Healthy Start Scheme. We immediately reached out to the Department of Health and Social Care to get as much information as we could, and found out the parameters and timelines of the consultation. We wrote a press statement in response to the news highlighting the positive contribution nursery milk makes to children’s diets at the time and habits going forward. We wrote to new Health and Social Care Secretary Matt Hancock, and Public Health Minister Steve Brine asking for assurance that nursery milk will be protected. We also wrote to Shadow Education Secretary Angela Rayner who had expressed disapproval of the news as well, thanking her for her support and offering to meet. We are in the process of launching a campaign to rally public support for the scheme ahead of the Government trying to make any potential detrimental changes.

  • Following news that the NMRU has suspended processing some settings’ claims for reimbursement for nursery milk, we have liaised with the Department of Health and Social Care to get as much information as we can on the matter. We have shared all the information we have obtained with any setting who has got in touch with us about the issue and are working with all parties to get it resolved as soon as possible.
